The fourth-generation Sportage, KMA’s longest-running nameplate, wraps stunning contemporary design around a structure that is both stiffer and more spacious than before. Advanced driver assistance technologies, significant suspension and steering improvements, and available intelligent AWD vastly improve the Sportage’s driving dynamics while premium materials and world-class craftsmanship create a class-up experience. It will be arriving in the Kia of North Grand Rapids Showroom in the very near future!
Designed under the direction of Peter Schreyer, Kia’s president and chief design officer, the all-new Sportage remains instantly recognizable despite increased dimensions. Though it keeps the same overall width as its predecessor, the new Sportage’s wheelbase has been stretched 1.2 inches (now 105.1 inches), while overall length has increased 1.6 inches to 176.4 inches.
Giving the Sportage a more premium interior feel is the availability of either a single-tone (black) or two-tone (Dark and Light Grey or Black and Beige) cabin, while metalwork elements blended with soft-touch materials contribute to a more upscale interior. The EX and SX Turbo models add sumptuous leather upholstery, and the SX Turbo includes a D-shaped, heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, piano black trim along the center console, aluminum alloy pedals, and authentic stitching on the dashboard.
Efficiency and driving performance were two major areas of focus when retuning the engines. The hard-charging 2.0-liter inline-four turbo found on the SX Turbo makes 241 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque and has been re-tuned to target improved fuel efficiency and offer better midrange torque. The LX and EX use a normally aspirated 2.4-liter engine that produces 181 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque and is also retuned to target better fuel efficiency.
As we mentioned in our last blog, the new Kia Niro was not the only vehicle Kia profiled at last week’s Chicago Auto Show. Also making its debut was the new 2017 Kia Optima Plug-In Hybrid – Kia’s first plug-in vehicle.
Packed with a host of technology features, the Optima PHEV is engineered with an emphasis on both efficiency and driving dynamics. Its 2.0-liter “Nu” four-cylinder GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission to generate a class-leading 154 horsepower@6,000 rpm. The electric power is produced by a transmission-mounted 50-kW motor.
Boasting an estimated 600 miles of total driving range, the Optima PHEV’s next-generation battery system features a 9.8 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack.
While we don’t yet know the exact date this dynamic, unique car will arrive at the Kia of North Grand Rapids showroom, we do know that when it does it’ll be one of the most exciting eco-friendly cars on the road.
Today was finally the day of the Kia Niro debut at the Chicago International Auto Show. While it has not yet made its debut at Kia dealerships, we’re now able to show you a real photo of it – and give you a little more information about it.
Here’s the first thing you need to know: it’s not your typical cracker box hybrid vehicle. As you can see from the photo, you get the style and appeal of a utility vehicle – but you also get the fuel economy of a hybrid (Kia expects the Niro to get around 50 mpg).
It’s spacious and comfortable. It is expected to get top honors from The NHTSA and IIHS, the governing bodies on vehicle safety. It has been equipped with special accessories to keep the handling smooth and the noise at a minimum.
Of course, the big question you’re probably asking: does it lack power because it’s a hybrid? Absolutely not! The Niro accelerates quickly off the line and continues its smooth power delivery, making it fun to drive anywhere you need to go.
There’s no doubt that the Kia Niro debut was everything you could ask for – and then some! In the coming months, we’ll have a better idea of when we’ll be seeing the Niro in the Kia of North Grand Rapids showroom. In the meantime, we’ll just have to be patient!
In our next blog, we’ll be telling you about another exciting Kia that made its debut at the same Chicago Auto show.
Something in today’s edition of Automotive News grabbed our attention here at Kia of North Grand Rapids. The publication says that, according to some well-placed sources, Kia will be launching its first-ever sport sedan sometime in 2017.
For now, the sedan is code named CK, and will compete with cars such as the BMW 4 Series and the Audi A5. The article further says there will be three engine choices – and that it will be rear-wheel drive.
We want to emphasize that for now, at least, there has been no official announcement. But if this happens – and this car makes it into the Kia of North Grand Rapids showroom in 2017 – this is going to truly be a sight to behold!
We’ll give you more details on this exciting development as they become available.
Despite fewer selling days … and despite some brutal weather that actually caused some dealerships to close for a short period of time, Kia Motors America recorded its best January ever. All told, the brand sold 38,305 new vehicles.
Leading the way is the sleek and sophisticated Kia Soul, which sold 9,191 models. The Soul was followed closely by the mid-size Optima sedan, which checked in at 8,413; and the Sportage compact SUV at 6,695.
During a month when most brands’ sales were down year-over-year, we’re pleased to report that Kia continued to grow. Stop by Kia of North Grand Rapids today and check out the new Kia of your choice today. Kia’s combination of styling, quality, safety and warranty simply can’t be beat.
